- Carl and Adam were caught driving to the airport in a stolen car.
- They were arrested and taken to a police station.
- The police questioned them for then hours.
- Finally they were charged with (=officially accused of) armed robbery.

The trial – proces

- After two days the jury reached their verdict.
- Carl was found guilty. His fingerprints were on the gun used in the robbery.
- The judge decided what Carl’s punishment should be.
- He sentenced him to ten years in prison (jail).
- There was no proof that Adam had committed the crime.
- He was acquitted and allowed to go free.
