7B - MINI GRAMMAR as

a. Look at same extracts from 2f, and then read the rules about as.
Tim Bentinck has been working as a radio actor for many years.
(Tim Bentinck pracuje jako actor radiowy od wielu lat.)
‘It’s as naturalistic as you can make it sound – to lift it off the page, to make it sound as though you’re not reading it.’
To jest tak naturalistyczne jak potrafisz wydać dźwięk – unieść to z kartki, żeby brzmiało tak jakbyś tego nie czytał.

We can use as in many different ways:
1. to describe somebody or something’s job or function (żeby opisać czyjaś pracę lub funkcję czegoś): She works as a nurse. You can use that box as a chair.
2. to compare people or things (żeby porównać ludzi lub rzeczy): She’s as tall as me now.
3. to talk about how something appears, sounds, feels, etc. (żeby powiedzieć jak coś wygląda, brzmi, czuje, itp.): It looks as if it’s going to snow.
4. to give a reason (żeby podać powód): As it was raining, we didn’t go out. (as=because)
5. to say that something happened while something else was happening (żeby powiedzieć że coś się wydarzyło w podczas gdy coś innego się wydarzyło): As they were leaving the postman arrived. (as=when/ at the same time)

b. Decide how as is used in each sentence and match them to uses 1-5 above:
A – 2. I don’t think his performance in this series was as good as in the last one. (compare)
B – 3. The picture looks like as if it has been painted by a child. (talk about how something appears)
